Gears of war 3
Gears of War 3 Storyline
"Jacinto, the last human city, has been destroyed. The Locust Horde has pushed the stranded remnants of humanity towards the brink of extinction, and a fearsome new enemy has risen, threatening to destroy them both. The story of Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad comes to an explosive conclusion in Gears of War 3."
Not much is known yet about the storyline. However, what we do know is this; Gears of War 3 has been written by science fiction author Karen Travis! Gears of War 3 is set around 18 months after Gears of War 2. Gears of War 3 will take place during planet Sera's Summer. Humanity have been stranded by The Coalition and the planet has gone into dispare.
The game has been said to start on Ravens Nest with Marcus waking up after having nightmares. Ravens Nest is a aircraft carrier which has been transformed into a floating city/village, it is made up of old COG ships, which some COG now inhabit. Other floating crafts like Ravens Nest have been setup for the planet's people to inhabit, after the fall of many land based citys to the Locust.
Gears of War 3 Multiplayer Maps With a wide selection of new maps making an appearance in Gears of War 3, you won't be short if fantastic scenery! We should also see some old maps making a come back.
Thrashball
Set in an old arena. Not much is yet known.
Overpass
As the Lambent infection spreads across Sera, the planet is quite literally falling apart. And as the substrata beneath this forgotten overpass begins to disintegrate, the entire city block is collapsing along with it and sliding into a vast underground cavern. Head for the high ground or you just might slide along with it.
Battles in this highly dynamic map often focus around the elevated Overpass, where teams can hole up and take advantage of the protected position and emplaced weaponry located there. But gaining the high ground can also be a trap, as the team left below will most assuredly use mortars and orbital lasers to regain their lost footing.
Trenches
The Locust have begun to carve mines and tunnels into the rocks of the Seran Deadlands, eking out any existence that resembles the underground passages of the Hollow they once called home. But this harsh environment is as relentless and unforgiving as any enemy they've ever had to face.
The Locust Trenches are small and tight, with clean lines of sight across virtually the entire battlefield. The central hill leads to a fortified bunker with a strategically important vantage point. Once taken, it is rarely surrendered, unless opposing forces can manage to sneak up under the cover of a passing sandstorm that leaves everyone blind for a short while.
Checkout
Set in a deserted shopping mall. Not much is yet known.
Mercy
This area was once a bustling town square filled with people, but it never recovered from the UIR mortar shellings of the Pendulum Wars. Emergence soon followed, and the already heartbroken residents were shown no mercy by Locust forces, leading to an almost immediate evacuation.
This large and open central square is surrounded on all sides by protected passageways and buildings. A raised dais yields powerful weaponry and a view of virtually everything within range, but the power located there must be hard-earned and well protected to provide any lasting advantage.
Old Town
Some remote areas of Sera managed to stave off the impact of Emergence for quite some time. Island towns like this one were able to sustain themselves with small farms and a steady supply of needed goods from the ocean. But all good things must come to an end, and eventually they could hide no more.
This is an excellent map for team-based play, with multiple areas that are well suited to both attack and defense scenarios. A well executed plan will often reap great rewards, and an enemy caught unaware can be flushed into a trap like a chicken free of its coop.

Gears of War 3 Weapons
Below are a selection of weapons which are included in Gears of War 3. Some are making a return from Gears of War 1 and 2, however some are new to the Gears of War series. All guarantee to mame and kill the Locust horde!

Retro Lancer + Bayonet
This weapon is an old school version of the Lancer Assault Rifle which was used by COG in the early days.
"Originaly developed for use against human combatants during the Pendulum Wars, the Lancer did not feature the Lancer's trademark Chainsaw Bayonet. Instead, the assault rifle was equipped with a standard knife bayonet lug for close combat.
Following Emergence Day, COG soldiers found the Lancer that served faithfully in the Pendulum Wars was now obsolete at fighting the new Locust Horde. The Locusts' tough skin often turned away the bayonet, and the Locusts' preference to close-combat magnified this problem. The ineffective knife bayonet combined with the Lancer's low rate of fire led to the need to redesign the Lancer Assault Rifle. Inspired by an incident where in Tai Kaliso improvised a buzzsaw to kill a Locust soldier, Marcus Fenix discussed this with his father, Adam Fenix. Soon, the modern Lancer Assault Rifle was developed, put into production and widespread use by the end of the first year of the Locust-Human War. This effectively retired any Lancer without a mounted chainsaw from combat; only after the Sinking of Jacinto did the Pendulum-Era Lancer see combat again, though dubbed as the Retro Lancer."
- Gearspedia

Lancer Assault Rifle + Chainsaw
Fully automatic weapon with a deadly chainsaw attachment.
"The Lancer Assault Rifle is the Coalition of Ordered Governments' current standard-issue assault rifle for Gears fighting in the front lines. The signature weapon of the COG, the Lancer possesses a fully automatic mode of fire and the iconic Chainsaw Bayonet attachment for melee combat. One of the most popular rifle designs on Sera, the Lancer has seen extensive use since the Pendulum Wars. The Lancer's long service record comes from its rugged reliability and reputation as a versatile assault rifle. Although intended for mid-range combat, the Lancer is also effective at longer ranges due to its low recoil.
Despite the existence of a Locust Horde counterpart to the lancer, the Hammerburst assault rifle, Locust have been known to use the Lancer. In Gears of War, Theron Guards and Drones use the Lancer against COG Gears. Around 15 A.E, the Cyclops, a newer type of Drone, are exclusively armed with the Lancer. Cyclops have a particular tendency to use the Chainsaw Bayonet.
The idea of changing the original Lancer into the chainsaw bayonet Lancer was the product of Marcus and Adam Fenix, and inspired by a desperate combat maneuver performed by Tai Kaliso. Like Marcus, many Gears were complaining that the original bayonet blade didn't work well on Locust armor or hide. Marcus informed his father about it this failing in design, and soon after, Adam produced a prototype with a chainsaw bayonet on the Lancer. This made it easy to slice through the Locusts' thick hides."

Hammerburst Assault Rifle II
A very powerful semi automatic rifle, but now with added iron sights.
"The Hammerburst features a relatively short barrel and compact size, and excels in medium to long-range combat. However, the Hammerburst is not as effective in short-range combat. The 6-round burst fire mode, in comparison to the fully automatic fire mode of the Lancer Assault Rifle, deals significantly less damage in short-range combat. However, at safer, longer ranges, the Hammerburst overexcedes the Lancer in terms of stopping power or accuracy. Not only does it have a larger magazine, but the accuracy is phenomenal and the power is incredible. On Hardcore, 4 to 6 bursts will kill a Drone, whereas a complete clip of Lancer bullets can sometimes not kill them. This gives you a picture of the Stopping Power of this assault rifle.
Prior to the Hammerburst II, the Hammerburst was used extensively by the Locust. Drones were commonly deployed with the Hammerburst into battle. Ironically, Gears frequently use it due to its great accuracy and damage, an example being Damon Baird. The one drawback on a brutal beast of a gun, is the lack of a CQC melee weapon."
- Gearspedia

Sawed Off Shotgun
The sawed off shotgun in many ways is like the classic Gnasher Shotgun, however it has two barrels which will inflict more multiple enemy damage.
"The Sawed-off shotgun is not covered in blue lights like other COG weapons, and so could be a Stranded gun used by Gears. It also has more of a kick than the Gnasher, and more power as is seen in the Ashes to Ashes trailer and the Campaign Demo, where Marcus Fenix used it to kill a Drone with one shot and fire at Lambent tentacles respectively.
The shotgun fires once per-reload, discharging both barrels simultaniously. Despite being seen to use 2 shells this is expressed as 1 within the in-game HUD, far less than was previously shown in the Ashes to Ashes trailer when the weapon fired multiple shots without reload, but this was later confirmed as Artistic licence.
This gun was introduced to the universe because Cliff wanted to embrace the shotgun and give more of a possible selection to selecting a standard loadout for multiplayer in Gears 3.
Lee Perry explained The Sawed-off Double-Barrel Shotgun's range capabilities like this: Sawn off→Gnasher→Pendulum-era Lancer→Lancer→Hammerburst showing that the Sawed-off will be a short range power packed version of the Gnasher.
The shotgun has its own special execution. The weapon is unhinged, wrapped around the downed enemies neck and pulled up, snapping the victims neck and also reloading the gun for the user."
- Gearspedia

Gnasher Shotgun
Good short range weapon. If the enemy is too close he will loose his head along with many other body parts. However not good at long range.
"The Gnasher Shotgun is a lever-action, short-barreled combat shotgun that is commonly deployed by the Coalition of Ordered Governments' Gears. It is comparatively small and easy to aim, making it exceptionally useful for close encounters. It possesses both phenomenal firepower and momentous Stopping Power, making it ideal for persuading enemies to keep their distance. Its lever-action design is intended to keep the weapon's size and weight down while making it easier to reload after shooting.
As a shotgun, the Gnasher fires rounds loaded with buckshot - this results in a spray of ammunition over a cone-shaped trajectory. Because of this, the Gnasher is not particularly difficult to aim and is devastating at a range of point blank to 8 meters - often taking down man-sized targets in one single blast. At slightly longer ranges, it is still formidable, but not nearly as destructive. At longer ranges, the weapon's wide scatter pattern makes it rather ineffective.
Though designed and built by the COG, the Locust Horde has shown a particular liking for the Gnasher, and is well-known for salvaging and using it. Locust Grenadiers make extensive use of the weapon, as do Grenadier Elites. Some Drones make use of the shotgun as well, as do some Theron Guards and Palace Guards. "

Digger Launcher
This weapns fires a creature into the ground which will dig to your location, shoot up from the dirt and explode.
"The Digger Launcher fires a "small, indigenous creature called a digger", attached to an explosive device that digs underneath and through the ground, making a loud, high-pitched scream sound as it approaches its target in addition to kicking up dirt and pathing tiles along its path, making its approach obvious to enemies. The Digger then pops out of the ground and stays in the air for 2 seconds where the trajectory was set, and then explodes releasing shrapnel in addition to the explosive blast. The heads of near by enemies burst open into a flush of blood and brains. The affect it has when directly fired into a target is incredibly bloody and violent. The Digger will eat its way through the targets chest, to their back, making munching noises and causing blood to shoot out of the targets chest and back as it goes, before finally exploding and somehow, decapitating the target as seen in a multiplayer demo. It is seen to kill a Savage Grenadier in a single blast, presumably making its power equal or greater than that of a Frag Grenade. It has a targeting system more like a Bolo Grenade than a standard weapon, and uses a curved line that shows the trajectory of the digger to aim including a standard reticule. It is mostly effective due to its ability to render cover useless, and take out entrenched foes."
- Gearspedia

Hammer of Dawn
This weapon will fire a concentrated beam of engergy killing most things in it's path.
"The Hammer of Dawn is a WMD (Weapon of Mass Destruction) in the Gears of War game. As stated before, it fires Imulsion powered satellite beams and is extremely powerful. This weapon is not to be used at close range, as the explosion is extremely damaging and capable of taking out the weapon wielder as well. At longer ranges, it can take out just about anything, from infantry to Emergence Holes to the more powerful Locust such as Seeders and Berserkers The satellite beam is a 7-second charge that causes a very powerful initial explosion. That initial explosion is when the beam is at its strongest, as it can instantly take out any regular infantry soldier nearby. As the beam is held, however, the strength gradually drops to a mere beam that gradually reduces health like any other weapon.
Therefore, it is best to get a good positioning of the trajectory of the beam for maximum effectiveness in its initial explosion. One of the main weaknesses of the Hammer of Dawn is its aiming mechanism. If units are on the move, the designator must be adjusted to follow them or the satellite cannot complete its locking sequence. A better way to take out targets is to either aim at the ground near them (with bigger target, chances of missing is smaller) or at another distinct object that is near them (ex. Cover). This will decrease the chance of the target escaping."
- Gearspedia

Boomshot
A heavy weapon which can fire highly explosive grenade shells.
"The Boomshot's effectiveness and sheer raw power make it a highly contested weapon on most multiplayer maps that include it. It's among the few weapons that can score a one-shot-kill on Execution, and though its ammo capacity is very small, the fact that you can wipe out a cluster of enemies with a single shot means that it is almost invariably in high demand. On several maps, such as Jacinto, it isn't quite as popular due to the availability of a Mortar and Torque Bow both located close to the action, but the Boomshot remains a powerful and effective weapon, so it's a given that at some point, someone is going to make a run for it. Be wary, especially if an enemy gets to it before you or an ally does."
- Gearspedia

One Shot
This is a very high caliber rifle, capable to inflicting very large amounts of damage.
"The One Shot was a heavy-class Sniper rifle/Recoilless rifle. One round will vaporize your target into a red mist. It was a very effective weapon for fighting Drones and the Lambent. The rifle is so powerful that it can punch through a Boomshield and kill even a Mauler on the other side. However, it is known to have a very long reload time to compensate for this."
- Gearspedia

Boltok Pistol
Standard pistol type sidearm weapon for Locust.
"The Boltok Pistol was the standard-issue sidearm of the Locust, specifically the Drones. It is a high-caliber revolver with a 6-round capacity. It is heavier, slower to fire, and holds half as much ammunition as the COG-issue Snub Pistol, but does unequivocally more damage per shot and has exceptional stopping power. In this regard, it continues the Locust weapon-design philosophy of creating weapons with an emphasis towards brute force."
- Gearspedia

Gorgon SMG
Used to be named the Gorgon piston but now the SMG, which is fully automatic.
"The Gorgon Pistol is now a fully automatic submachine gun when used in the new Beast Mode demo and is instead called the Gorgon SMG, although its appearance is just like that of the original Gorgon Pistol."
- Gearspedia

Incendiary Grenade
Much like a petrol bomb, this nasty thing will be sure to crisp your enemy!
"The incendiary grenade has a chained handle like all other Bolo Grenades, but is little more than just a metal can with a flaming whick on the end, similar to a molotov cocktail. Unlike the other grenades, however, it explodes immediately upon impact, even on ceilings and walls. It serves a similar purpose to the Ink Grenade, which is area denial."
- Gearspedia

Frag/Bolo Grenade
Tag your enemy with this and wait for the bang. Can also just be thown.
"The Bolo Grenade is substantially different from any other previous fragmentation grenade, both in damage and as throwing method. The grenade's structure consists of an explosive attached to a chain-like extension that is swung around and released when enough momentum is gained to throw it. Its targeting system is also quite different since it actually maps out a predicted trajectory (the purple line or red line if you are playing as Locust) as well as a finishing point (the distinct purple circle at the end of the trajectory marking). The grenade's blast radius, however, is extremely small, and the grenade cannot damage foes behind a cover point no matter how close the grenade is to them. Therefore, the grenade needs to be thrown with pinpoint precision to damage, let alone kill, an enemy. It's great for flushing someone out of their cover point, however. Another important use for it is that it is capable of closing Locust emergence holes."
- Gearspedia

Smoke Grenade
This device can be used as cover or as a distraction.
"The Smoke Grenade discharges a thick, white-gray smoke that obscures the vision of anyone inside the cloud or outside looking into the cloud. The Smoke Grenade also has affiliation lighting, and will light up red for a Locust user or blue for a Gear user."
- Gearspedia

Ink Grenade
On impact this grenade will emit a toxic smoke screen.
"The Ink Grenade is an infant Nemacyst Inker housed inside a Bolo Grenade casing. The Ink Grenade is a new type of grenade introduced in Gears of War 2. When triggered, the Ink Grenade releases a thick, black and green poisonous smoke for a short amount of time. The smoke damages enemies and obscures the vision of enemy players. Prolonged exposure (5 seconds or more) to the smoke will down or kill an enemy character; a downed character is more susceptible to the poison and will die within a few seconds of exposure. The Ink Grenade is used almost exclusively by the Locust Horde, particularly by Kantus."
- Gearspedia

The Multi-Turret
A turrent which can hold four guns of your choice or will fire four Pendulum Lancers as standard.
"What the Savage Locust lack in technology, they more than make up for in ingenuity, with no Troika Turrets to be found they've created gun racks to mount and fire multiple weapons simultaneously. They can swap in whatever weapons they can salvage whether that's Pendulum Wars Lancers, Gnasher shotguns or the grenade launching Boomshots. The Multi-Turret was created and manned by the Savage Grenadier."
- Gearspedia

Silverback
This handy device is a full body armor suit. It holds two weapons however also could be used as a cover device for your allies.
"The Silverback was originally a loader mech suit, but later it was militarized. The Silverback comes equipped with a rocket launcher on one arm and a gatling gun on the other. The Silverback is able to be equipped with other weapons. It has the ability to spread its leg armor out, effectively creating cover for other COG soldiers to hide behind, but at the cost of movement."
- Gearspedia
Retro Lancer + Bayonet
This weapon is an old school version of the Lancer Assault Rifle which was used by COG in the early days.
"Originaly developed for use against human combatants during the Pendulum Wars, the Lancer did not feature the Lancer's trademark Chainsaw Bayonet. Instead, the assault rifle was equipped with a standard knife bayonet lug for close combat.

Unlike the other grenades, however, it explodes immediately upon impact, even on ceilings and walls. It serves a similar purpose to the Ink Grenade, which is area denial."
